Cantor Testifies Before Senate Hearing on TV Ratings
Joanne Cantor, professor of communication arts at UW–Madison, testified at the end of February before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
Cantor, an outspoken critic of new television ratings, is a researcher on the National Television Violence Study, for which she has investigated the use of TV ratings and advisories and how they affect children’s interest in programs.
Cantor has gone on record in support of the V-chip, which allows parents to limit their children’s access to certain televised fare. In addition to participating in the national violence study, Cantor has conducted research on how television frightens children.
