Campus shifts to Web enrollment

August 15, 2002 By John Lucas

Looking to add or drop a fall class? Changing a class section? Boot up a computer and log on to your personal My UW Madison portal.

As part of the university’s continuing shift to Web-based student services, for the first time student class enrollment and registration will be conducted exclusively through the Internet, says Joanne Berg, interim registrar.

“From home or a university computer lab, online enrollment is a quick and convenient way to get your ducks in a row,” Berg says. In fact, yellow ducks will begin appearing across campus this fall as part of a campaign by the Registrar’s Office to raise awareness of the service.

Web enrollment has been available to some students at UW-Madison since 2001. Thousands of students have already used the system to select classes quickly and efficiently, she says. The My UW portal is a secure site at which students can also access their student record, find Web mail, campus calendars and personal information about tuition and financial aid.

As a result of this summer’s upgrade of ISIS, the Integrated Student Information System, the touch-tone phone system will no longer be offered.

The new Web enrollment hotline, (608) 263-2222, is the same as the old touch-tone number. The hotline gives directions to university computer labs and access to personal assistance for students who have no computer access or are unable to use a computer.

In addition, a new information center has been set up in the lobby of Peterson Office Building, 750 University Ave., at which any student can use one of six computers to enroll and receive personal help from a Registrar’s Office employee.

Students must have an active UW–Madison Net ID to use the system. For portal assistance, call (608) 264-4357.

“We know some students may miss touch-tone, but we’re doing everything we can to make this transition as easy as possible,” Berg says.
