Campus Natural Areas open house Oct. 17

October 10, 2001

Few people realize that fully one-third of the UW–Madison campus, about 325 acres in all, consists of woodland, wetland and fields – prime wild lands that hug the south shore of Lake Mendota.

The campus community and general public are invited to learn more about these Campus Natural Areas at an open house, 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the circle parking lot opposite the entrance to Picnic Point off University Bay Drive.

The rain-or-shine event will feature a guided nature walk at 4 p.m., a bird walk at 5 p.m., exhibits about current research in the CNA, and information about policies, research opportunities and volunteer opportunities in the natural areas. Refreshments will be served.

The open house is co-sponsored by recently established Campus Natural Areas Committee and Friends of the Campus Natural Areas.
