Campus bus route and bus stop changes; Observatory Drive traffic alert
Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and continuing for the next two to three weeks, bus routes will be split into two runs through the west end of the campus due to a delay in completion of road construction work in that area.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., buses will leave the Memorial Union every seven minutes, with alternating routes. Every other bus will go to the Clinical Sciences Center (UW Hospital & Clinics) and to Eagle Heights respectively. Until the road construction is completed, buses will not be able to travel consecutively to these stops.
After 6 p.m., the route will serve both stops on longer running times of every 15 minutes.
New, temporary bus stops will be located on Walnut Street at the north end of lots 60 and 70. There will also be new stops on the north side of Observatory Dr. just east of Walnut St., and on the west side of Walnut St. near the McClimon track.
Temporary bus schedules will be available at the Memorial Union’s Visitor Information Place on N. Park St. and at UW Transportation Services in Room 124 of the WARF Building, 610 N. Walnut St., after noon on Wednesday.
Campus officials apologize for any inconvenience these changes will cause for campus bus riders.
For more information, contact Lori Kay, director of Transportation Services, at 265-3200.
Observatory Drive traffic alert
A portion of Observatory Drive (east of the pond near the Nielsen Tennis Stadium) will be closed beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14, due to site preparation for construction of the university’s new Pharmacy Building.
Observatory Drive traffic to and from parking lots 60, 70, 76 and Eagle Heights will be re-routed via Walnut Street.
In addition, Marsh Terrace, which runs between Observatory Drive and Highland Avenue, will be reduced from two lanes of traffic in each direction to one lane in each direction on Oct. 14. Drivers should expect delays.
The new north road between Walnut Street and Observatory Drive should be completed and open to all bikes, pedestrians, and vehicular traffic by the end of October, weather permitting. Once that road is done, Marsh Terrace will be closed permanently and construction of the Pharmacy Building will begin.
It is strongly recommended that all UW Hospital and Clinics employees walking to and from lots 60, 70 and 76 use the sidewalk adjacent to the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in order to avoid the construction site near Marsh Terrace.
Bus routes are being re-worked to accommodate the road changes.
