Campus bus route 80 to change July 18

July 13, 2005

Starting Monday, July 18, the campus bus route around UW Hospital and Clinics will be modified and several stops will be closed. The changes to Route 80, which are due to construction projects in the hospital area, are expected to remain in place for a year or more.

Route 80 buses no longer will be turning into the hospital area to pick up and drop off passengers. The nearest bus stops to the hospital will be located on Highland Avenue just south of the Walnut Street intersection. Several new stops will be located on Highland and University avenues and on Walnut Street near Gifford Pinchot Drive and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.

Campus buses no longer will be detouring through Lot 60. They will turn right onto Walnut Street from University Bay Drive and then turn left at Highland Avenue. They will take Highland to University Avenue, University to Walnut Street, and resume their regular route at Walnut Street and Observatory Drive.

Other bus routes, including the 8, 28, 37, 38 and 53, will not be affected. Riders will still be able to board those buses on Walnut Street at Lot 60.

Route 80 riders who park at Lot 60 will need to use the stops on University Bay Drive by the new Lot 76 ramp.

Maps showing all of the Route 80 modifications and new stops are available on the buses and at http://www.mymetrobus.com.
