Camp Randall work ends 1st phase
The $11.2 million utility construction phase of the Camp Randall Stadium renovation plan is expected to wind up this month.
The next phase of construction remains on hold awaiting the go-ahead provided by adequate funding from private gifts.
Al Fish, the associate athletic director in charge of capital projects said a decision to proceed with the renovation must be made by Dec. 1 in order for the 93 suites and 644 club seats to be ready for the 2004 football season.
Ninety percent of the $99.7 million renovation is being funded by the Athletic Department. Revenue generated from the sale of suites and club seats will help fund the project.
A sluggish economy and lack of a lead donor have postponed the project. Because the Department of Athletics is a self-supporting entity and receives no state tax dollars for its $50 million annual budget, the generosity of alumni, friends, and fans of the Badgers is vital to the continued success of Wisconsin Athletics.
