Arboretum shares winter survival, art inspiration in two family workshops
Thriving during a Wisconsin winter probably is quite a challenge for you as it is, but how would you manage if you were a hapless chickadee?

Actually, chickadees, nut- hatches and other birds that winter over in cold climates have developed pretty foxy survival strategies. Insects, reptiles and amphibians also have effective coping mechanisms. Such seasonal signs will be sought in the woods and prairies of the Arboretum on Sunday, Nov. 30. Meet for a walk at the Visitor Center at 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, artists and crafters can draw inspiration from nature’s winter motifs and make their own holiday art gifts as part of the Arboretum’s “Earth Partnerships for Families: Art Works at the Arboretum.” Dress for the weather, though, as both indoor and outdoor activities have been planned for Saturday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. in the Visitor Center.

This workshop begins at 6 p.m. in the Red Gym’s On Wisconsin Room A. Information: International Student Services, 262-9716, students@redgym.wisc.edu.
