Cellist’s concert sold out
A genuine classical superstar, cellist Yo-Yo Ma is at the top of his profession. On Thursday, Jan. 27, he will perform for the seventh time at the Wisconsin Union Theater as part of the Union Concert Series. He will be accompanied by pianist Kathryn Stott. Tickets for the event are sold out.


Monk returns to theater
Composer, singer and creator of new opera, music-theater and film works, Meredith Monk returns to the Wisconsin Union Theater to perform a new work, entitled “Magic Frequencies,” Saturday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m.

Monk also will conduct various residency activities on campus the week before her performance. Monk is recognized as a pioneer in what is now called “extended vocal technique” and “interdisciplinary performance.”

The poignant, full-evening work combines vocal and instrumental music (percussion, keyboards, theremin, violin), movement, images, light and objects.

Arthur Greene to perform
The School of Music hosts pianist Arthur Greene Friday, Jan. 28. The Michigan artist plans to perform the complete Scriabin Sonatas in Morphy Hall, Humanities, starting at 8 p.m.

Scuba club kicks off
Hey, the lakes haven’t iced over, so why not? The Hoofers Scuba Club holds its kickoff meeting Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Union for people interested in joining the club.
