Bill Elvey leaving UW-Madison facilities post

Bill Elvey, associate vice chancellor for facilities planning and management, will be leaving his position at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in early October to become senior vice president of Children’s Health System of Texas.

Margaret Tennessen, deputy to the associate vice chancellor for FP&M since April 2014, will serve as interim associate vice chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Laurent Heller announced. Heller will soon begin a national search for a permanent successor to Elvey.

Elvey has been at UW–Madison since September 2012 and is the former director of facilities management at the University of Texas at Dallas.

“I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work with Bill in my first month as vice chancellor,” Heller says. “During that time, he has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and a strong commitment to his faculty and staff colleagues, our students and UW–Madison’s mission.”

Under Elvey’s leadership, the campus has continued to make progress on facilities development, operational flexibilities and an updated Campus Master Plan.

Tennessen has been at UW–Madison for more than 20 years. Prior to joining FP&M, she served as assistant director for administration at the Wisconsin Union.

“I appreciate Margaret’s willingness to step up and lead FP&M during this period of transition,” Heller says. “Her experience and dedication will be great assets to FP&M and the entire campus.”
