Baumann appointed to U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
Linda Ciofu Baumann, professor emerita at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Nursing, has been appointed to a four-year term on the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
“We are confident that her extensive experience in global public health, chronic disease management, and behavioral health promotion will serve patients, health care professionals, and the nation well,” says School of Nurisng Dean Katharyn May.
Baumann is past president of the Society of Behavioral Medicine and has been an ambassador for Research!America’s Paul G. Rogers Society for Global Health since 2007. As a certified adult nurse practitioner, she is an experienced researcher and consultant and has spoken at medical conferences across the country and around the world.
Baumann is also a widely-published author, and has co-authored two books, one of which—“Advanced Assessment and Clinical Diagnosis in Primary Care”—received the American Journal of Nursing’s Book of the Year award in advanced practice nursing in 2003. Her areas of expertise are global public health, chronic disease management, and behavioral health promotion.
The task force is an independent, volunteer panel of 16 experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine. It makes recommendations to primary care clinicians about preventive services such as screenings, counseling, or preventive medications that may benefit patients before they experience signs or symptoms of a condition. Members come from many health-related fields, including internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, obstetrics/gynecology, and nursing.
