Annual Security and Fire Safety Report available for download

Dean of Students Lori Berquam sent the following message to campus on Oct. 1, 2013:

Members of the UW–Madison Community:

In the past few weeks, you’ve heard me talk about a number of measures that we are taking as a university to keep our campus community safe. I’m writing today because the university has important information available about crime and safety resources at UW–Madison. I know you’ve seen a lot of information about crime in the campus area due to increased communications efforts, including timely warnings and other media; however, I want to stress that crime numbers on and around campus have been consistent with past years.

Please take a moment to view UW–Madison’s 2013 Security and Fire Safety Report. This annual report is a detailed guide containing information about a wide range of safety-related topics, including crime statistics.  It is provided in accordance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Safety Act of 1990 and subsequent amendments that led to its being renamed the Jeanne Clery Act in 1998.

This past year, we have taken several steps to enhance the report and compliance with other components of the Jeanne Clery Act, including internal, external and system-wide audits. As a result, you may notice some changes to the report this year. You’ll see a more comprehensive fire safety section of the report, as well as more in-depth information about crime on campus, including policy statements as appropriate. We also go into greater detail about the programs and services that we have put into place to educate students and community members about safety on campus.
