Wisconsin Week to consider survey results in summer
Results of the Wisconsin Week reader survey conducted in February will be analyzed this summer.
The newspaper staff sent an e-mail to a randomly selected sample of UW–Madison faculty and staff inviting them to complete a survey. Others responded via Wisconsin Week Wire, a weekly e-mail newsletter. About 60 people completed the survey published in the printed edition of Wisconsin Week.
The survey asked readers whether they preferred the printed or online version of the university’s newspaper of record, how frequently they read either version, which kinds of stories they read and what additional information they would like the publication to include.
The results will help University Communications to plan editorial content for next year.
The Division of Information Technology distributed the survey for University Communications, and UW System’s Market Research Unit is analyzing the data.
Information about Wisconsin Week, including publication schedule and deadlines, is printed on page 2 and available at http://www.news.wisc.edu/wisweek/. While this is the last issue for the 2003-04 academic year, University Communications publishes on the Web throughout the summer. Submit items for the online calendar at http://today.wisc.edu/submit and send other campus news to releases@news.wisc.edu.
Wisconsin Week will resume printing in the fall with its Wednesday, Aug. 25, issue. The deadline to submit items is Monday, Aug. 16.
Bios of UW leaders on Web
UW–Madison Archives has launched two Web sites providing extensive biographies of the presidents of the UW System, and the presidents and chancellors of UW–Madison. In addition, the sites link to archived material for each administration, and to the UW–Madison Archives Oral History Project, a database of oral histories that includes taped interviews with UW System and UW–Madison leaders dating back to the mid-20th century. The Web sites can be found at http://archives.library.wisc.edu/.
London Times available online
A new digital resource allows users to dive into 200 years of British history with just a few clicks of a mouse.
The Times (London) Digital Archive, a new database available through the UW–Madison Libraries, facilitates exploration of British history. The archive includes page facsimiles with more than 7.6 million articles from all issues of The Times from 1785 to 1985 online.
The database is accessible to UW–Madison students, faculty and staff with a valid ID card. The libraries also provide access to a similar database for the New York Times from 1851 to 1999, which has been available since the summer of 2002.
