Q: I saw the MadHatters at the spring UW Band concert and they were wonderful. When is their next concert?
A: MadHatters, UW–Madison’s male a cappella choir, is scheduled to perform at the University Roundtable, Wednesday, Dec. 11. Cost is $9 and includes a buffet lunch. Great geodes!
Geodes, those dazzling, colorful crystalline rocks prized by children and adult collectors alike, are the focus of a special exhibit throughout October at the Geology Museum. The museum will have on display its most interesting and novel geodes, including specimens from geode hot spots such as Mexico, Brazil and South Africa. Admission to the museum, located in Weeks Hall, is free. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Summit speakers
Paul A. Gigot of The Wall Street Journal and William M. Daley, president of SBC Communications and a former presidential cabinet secretary, will serve as keynote speakers at Wisconsin Economic Summit III. Sponsored by UW System, the summit will be held Oct. 14-16 at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee. The theme is “Taking Steps to Move Wisconsin Forward.” Gigot will address “The Political Economy After September 11th” at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Daley will give the keynote address Oct. 15 at the summit’s business and legislative luncheon, which will explore “A New Public/ Private Partnership.” Information: http://www.wisconsin.edu/summit/.
SWAP fires up auction site
The Surplus With A Purpose program (SWAP) recently launched its new online auction site. The site offers unique items ranging from clothing and computer equipment to medical equipment and a lawn mower. Auctions average 10 days, with new item postings each week. The online auction supplements SWAP’s Thursday (for campus department and state agencies) and Friday (for the general public) sales at the warehouse, 2102 Wright St.

UW–Madison’s Companion Animal Club, a student organization in the School of Veterinary Medicine, raised more than $30,000 for homeless animals through its 19th annual Dog Jog event Sept. 22. More than 800 humans, and almost as many canines, participated in the two-mile run on the west side of campus.
