Trivia madness!
To tap into the excitement of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, the Wisconsin Alumni Association, in conjunction with the UW System, is sponsoring an online March Madness trivia contest. Through Friday, March 22, WAA will post a daily, multiple-choice trivia question on its Web site, http://www.uwalumni.com. Two daily winners will be picked from the correct answers. At the end of the contest, WAA will randomly select two names from those who submitted correct responses. Each winner will receive a basketball signed by the members of the UW–Madison men’s basketball team.

Film fest ticket tips
Getting tickets for the four-day Wisconsin Film Festival, with more than 100 programs on campus and downtown, takes some planning. For a complete schedule, film lineup, ticket and ticket package order form, ordering instructions, and box office hours, visit: http://www.wifilmfest.org. If you lack Web access, call (877) 963-FILM and ask for a schedule and order forms.

Advance ticket purchase is recommended for best film selection and to avoid sold-out shows. Advance packages are on sale now. Advance single ticket sales begin Thursday, March 21.

To buy advance tickets or ticket packages, you need to select films and talks, fill out an order form, and submit the order form with payment to the box office. Showcase to focus on service, climate
Showcase 2002 brings together staff, faculty and students from across campus to discuss and recognize the efforts of campus offices and departments to improve processes that affect service, working and learning on campus. By highlighting a variety of projects, participants and attendees have the opportunity to identify common processes and learn lessons from the successes of others. Vet Med pioneer dies at 91
Carl Olson, who was credited with helping UW–Madison researchers discover the bovine leukosis virus, has died. He was 91. The research methods Olson used at the university’s School of Veterinary Medicine later served as a model for examining HIV in studies across the country. Olson, who joined the school in 1956, retired from UW–Madison in 1981 but continued as an emeritus professor. He died Feb. 28 in Harrisburg, Pa.

Law Revue set for March 15
The Law School’s annual Law Revue, a music and comedy show featuring sketches and songs written and performed by law students, will be Friday, March 15, 7 p.m., Memorial Union Theater. The free public revue, expected to last about two hours, includes surprise cameo appearances by faculty and staff.

WARF has new Web look

When tapping into the vast array of information and services provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, users will find a new Web site that provides quick and easy access to its resources.

WARF’s new site, http://www.warf.ws, includes a number of new features for both academic and industry users, including a sitewide search, political action forum, news releases, an e-mail alert service whenever a new WARF technology is posted, help reaching intellectual property manager or licensing managers, and a secure invention disclosure for UW–Madison researchers to electronically file Invention Disclosures.

Red Gym damaged
Just after 3 p.m. March 10, the Red Gym suffered an estimated $3,000-$4,000 in water damage when a sprinkler head popped open and set off the sprinkler system on the third floor. An outside air intake damper in a rear tower had stuck open, causing the sprinkler pipe to freeze. When it thawed, the head blew apart and activated the fire pump, bringing the fire department to the scene. Most of the damage occurred in the International Student Services area on second floor, where a computer and several keyboards and mice were soaked, along with the carpeting.
