Correction

A photo caption on page 4 of the Jan. 16 edition of Wisconsin Week incorrectly identified the text in the photo as Urdu. The text is Arabic, which uses the same script as Urdu.

Info center takes new name
Transportation Services has changed the name of its Visitor Information Place at the Memorial Union. It is now called the Transportation Information Place (TIP), but the services it offers remains the same.

“This is a full-service transportation office on the east campus – an express branch,” says Patti Lux-Weber, coordinator of customer service and special events for Transportation Services. “We want to make people aware that they don’t have to travel to our main office in the WARF building on the west campus in order to take care of their transportation needs.”

At the Transportation Information Place, customers can get answers to their parking questions, obtain daily visitor parking permits, purchase bus passes, and get route information and maps. Campus permit holders can obtain new stickers, turn in their old stickers and make changes in their parking assignments.

The Transportation Information Place, located on the outside of the Memorial Union at the intersection of North Park Street and Observatory Drive, is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1-4 p.m. The outlet will host an open house on Wednesday, Feb. 6, during business hours. Cookies and refreshments will be served.

Portal Wisconsin launches
Portal Wisconsin is a new online resource for Wisconsin’s arts, culture, humanities and history. The portal, sponsored by seven organizations including UW-Extension, Wisconsin Public Television and the Wisconsin Historical Society, helps visitors find culture, art, humanities and historical information through easy navigation. The site includes news, calendars, an artist library and other resources. Visit: http://www.portalwisconsin.org.

Friends group seeks book donations
The Friends of the Libraries group is calling for book, CD and LP record donations for their 14th semiannual book sale March 13-16. Donations are tax-deductible. Materials may be dropped off at the Lake Street dock of Memorial Library weekdays, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. To arrange for pick-up, contact the Friends, 265-2505, Friends@library.wisc.edu.

Union South’s Melting Pot offers new entrées

The Melting Pot in Einstein’s Food Court, Union South, which opened this past week, offers lunch-time entrées such as fresh pasta dishes, chicken Caesar salad and soup in a bread bowl, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Information: 263-2531, jalong3@facstaff.wisc.edu.
