Correction
A photo caption Sept. 26 incorrectly stated Jessica Gaspar’s academic affiliation. Gaspar is a teaching assistant and Ph.D. dissertator in the Theatre and Drama department.

Education compiles site for coping with tragedy
To assist educators and others in helping children cope with the tragic events of Sept. 11, the School of Education has compiled a comprehensive list of Internet resources.

From the school’s Center for Instructional Materials and Computing site, Web users can access resources ranging from background information, such as “How Black Boxes Work,” to guides designed to help children cope with their feelings, such as Sesame Workshop’s “Tragic Times, Healing Words.” To find the list, visit: http://www.education.wisc.edu.

Nominations sought for distinguished alums
The Wisconsin Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its Distinguished Alumni Awards, which honor professional achievement, civic leadership and/or service to the university. Honorees will receive their awards at a ceremony May 10.

This year, WAA has created an award to honor alumni younger than 40. Recipients of the Young Alumni Award must have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their careers, civic involvement and/or university service. Nomination deadline: Monday, Dec. 3. Dancers to gather

Diversity group plans weekend forum
Generation 2008, a student-organized group dedicated to raising the level of awareness of the university diversity effort, Plan 2008, will hold a free forum and workshop on the plan and diversity issues beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Pyle Center. Horrall dies at 70
Longtime UW–Madison scientist Ross M. Horrall died Sept. 17 at age 70. A fisheries biologist and ecologist, Horrall received his B.S. (“53), M.S. and Ph.D. from UW–Madison. Horrall rose to the position of senior scientist while working for the Department of Zoology, Marine Studies Center, and Sea Grant Institute, 1965-89.
