Academic staff town meetings
The Madison Academic Staff Association and Academic Staff Executive Committee will present two academic staff town meetings Tuesday, April 24, 4-5 p.m., 5120 Grainger, and Wednesday, April 25, 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m., School of Nursing Conference Room, H6/215 Clinical Sciences Center.

Chart new route on Charter
The center of Charter Street near Brogden Psychology is closed while crews extend campus chilled water pipes. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but will be limited to the lanes closest to each curb. Later, two-way traffic will be moved in the northbound lanes. Pedestrian traffic will continue on the west side of Charter Street during most of the work.

Waisman to host benefit
The jazz trio Expression will perform a variety of jazz compositions, from classic to Latin, in a benefit concert for the Friends of the Waisman Center Sunday, April 22 beginning at 5 p.m. Proceeds support various types of Waisman activities to benefit people with disabilities and their families. The event will be at the Waisman Center. Tickets: $25; a donor ticket, which includes the concert and a reception is $60. Information: 263-5837.

Engineering Expo coming

China expert on campus
Kenneth DeWoskin, a specialist on China, will address questions on that country, its relationship with the U.S. and its economic development during a visit Tuesday, April 24. The free public talk, entitled “China and the Internet: The Great Web of China — From Bronze to Bamboo to Bandwidth,” will be 5:30-7 p.m. in Grainger Hall. 263-7682, shubermiller@bus.wisc.edu.

All-campus party planned
The Wisconsin Alumni Student Board, the student arm of the Wisconsin Alumni Association, will host the first-ever All-Campus Party during the week of April 24-27. The party is designed for students by students to celebrate spring and the end of the semester. A dozen events are scheduled between the annual UW spring football game Saturday, April 21, and the Crazylegs Run Saturday, April 28, including a free concert at Luther’s Blues, flag football tournament at Camp Randall Stadium and a free film festival.

Albanians learn about land
An Albanian delegation of land market specialists will visit the Land Tenure Center through Sunday, April 22, to learn about Wisconsin’s practices in property registration, real estate, and development. The delegation also will visit the Wisconsin Department of Administration, the Dane County Register of Deeds, Dane County Surveyor’s Office, and the University of Wisconsin’s Land Information and Computer Graphics Facility. Correction
John C. Wright, chemistry, Andreas Christopher Albrecht Professor of Chemistry, was listed with an incorrect middle initial in the March 21 edition of Wisconsin Week’s list of named professors.

Backward glance
UW System President Kenneth Shaw decides to leave his job just as the budget battle gets underway in the Legislature. … The Joint Finance Committee harshly criticizes the university for the way it used instructional jobs approved in 1987.
