Advisory: Morgridge Campus & Community Summit

February 1, 2016 By Susannah Brooks

In 2016, the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Morgridge Center for Public Service celebrates 20 years of campus-community collaboration. “Progressing Together: Campus & Community Summit,” the first major event of this anniversary year, takes place on Friday, Feb. 5, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery (Discovery Building), 330 N. Orchard St.

A full schedule of events is available online.

Tashia and John Morgridge, the donors whose initial contribution helped create the center, will speak at 9:30 a.m. They will be available for interviews during the course of the event.

Four sessions of “lightning round” project presentations, capped at three minutes apiece, will highlight the work of undergraduate and graduate students, staff and citizens in communities around Dane County and Wisconsin in a quick, engaging atmosphere. Projects will also be on view in poster sessions.

Mark Bennett of the Morgridge Center is available to answer general questions about the event and assist with media inquiries. He can be reached at mark.bennett@wisc.edu or by phone at 608-262-6066 (before the event) or 414-861-5498 (day of event).

Members of the media are encouraged to interview campus and community participants during the event, although the day is tightly scheduled. To arrange time to speak with a specific leader, please contact Mark Bennett before or during the event.

Bennett is also able to connect media with projects and participants from communities outside of Madison and Dane County.

Andrew Seligsohn, president of Campus Compact, will deliver the keynote address.

In addition to Morgridge Center director and political science Professor Kathy Cramer, campus speakers and moderators include Diana Hess, dean of the School of Education, and Alaura Seidl, Morgridge Center assessment coordinator and instructor in the Art Department.

Community leaders acting as moderators include Crystal Anders, executive director of Community Shares of Wisconsin; Jaimes Johnson, director of community and campus relations for UW Credit Union; and Renee Moe, president and CEO of the United Way of Dane County.

Information about the Morgridge Center’s 20th anniversary activities will be updated online throughout the year.
