A Weekend Full of Fall Activities

Welcome to the start of the spookiest season in Madison, Wisconsin. This week at UW–Madison there are going to be numerous seasonal events that will supply all the #uwfall festivities anyone could ask for.

  1. Take the which pumpkin should you carve quiz, then hit the farmers’ market to snag the perfect pumpkin. There are nine UW–Madison inspired designs that can be printed out and carved into any pumpkin. The nine thematic images range from Bucky Badger to the iconic Wisconsin Union Sunburst. Share your pumpkin picture with #uwpumpkin.
  2. On October 26th head over to the Shell, tie up your skates, throw on your coziest costume and hit the ice to some seriously spooky songs. From 7-8:30pm every Saturday the Shell hosts an open skate night. This Saturday at the Shell the theme has a Halloween theme and comes with a guarantee to get you in the mood for Halloween.
  3. Wednesday October 30th 7-8:30pm the Wisconsin Union is hosting an event Write Your Own Selfie Obituary. A grimm topic that can motivate some uncommon ways of thinking. Channel your inner eerie spirit with an in-class writing workshop about how you want to be remembered.
  4. Explore the arb! This weekend the arboretum is picture perfect; the trees have transformed into the most vivid versions of themselves.  One event held on Sunday from 1-3pm is going to take the participants on a walk through what the arb could have been— in the 1920s developers planned a “Venice of the North.” If you can’t make any organized events head into the visiting center and then head out on your own.
  5. The highly anticipated Hamel music center is hosting a weekend full of grand opening celebrations. On Friday, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and remarks by Chancellor Rebecca Blank. Throughout the weekend the celebration continues with performances from students and staff of the UW–Madison School of Music.
  6.  On Saturday at 9 a.m. there is a free timed five kilometer run along Howard Temin lakeshore path. Everybody, including strollers and dogs on short leashes, are welcome for the fun run. There are runners and there are walkers; all you need to do to participate is sign up for a free personal barcode at https://parkrun.us/register and show up behind the Wisconsin Alumni Association, 650 N. Lake St., with your barcode on Saturday.
