New welcome center to open in September
The university’s new Welcome Center at 21 N. Park St. is expected to be open by mid-September, serving as a gateway to the university and the Greater Madison area and providing both campus and community visitor information.
“We are excited to provide visitors and tourists with a universal facility that not only showcases UW–Madison, but also highlights our wonderful community,” says Steve Amundson, director of Visitor and Information Programs.
Welcome Center services will be provided through a collaboration among the university’s Visitor and Information Programs, the Office of Transportation Services, and the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The center features a state-of-the-art reception area staffed by students, as well as interactive displays, conference rooms and a convenient drive-up window for parking and general information.
Transportation Services will sell parking permits, accept citation payments and provide parking information. Drive-through service will be available from 7:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and walk-in service from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Limited short-term visitor parking, intended for brief visits inside, will be available on the semi-circular drive in front of the center.
Welcome Center hours will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. Hours may vary during holiday and other university break periods.
