Friends offer 15,000 books at used book sale

Wisconsin’s largest used book sale, featuring more than 15,000 books on nearly any subject, returns March 22-25 to benefit the Friends of the UW–Madison Library.

Most materials are donated primarily by UW–Madison faculty, staff, students and area residents. Proceeds support various activities, including grants to campus libraries for acquisitions, preservation and conservation, an annual lecture series and grants-in-aid for scholars who visit the campus libraries from around the world to pursue humanities-related research.

This spring sale will offer special collections of books covering art, religion, history, science, foreign languages and gambling. The sale will be in 116 Memorial Library, 728 State St.

A preview sale ($5 admission) will be held from 5 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22. The regular sale, open to the public at no charge, will be 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 and Friday, March 24. On Saturday, March 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., patrons can bring a bag and fill it for $2.

Individuals may make tax-deductible donations of books, CDs and LP records any time during the year by simply leaving them in the “Open Return” book drops at most campus libraries. Materials also may be dropped off at the Lake Street dock of Memorial Library weekdays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
