Australian consul-general to visit campus

Bob Charles, Australia’s consul-general in Chicago, will visit UW–Madison on Jan. 31 and meet with the chancellor, the dean of international studies, as well as students, faculty and staff.

UW–Madison has several study-abroad and academic exchanges with universities in Australia, including study-abroad programs at Monash University, Murdoch University, and the Universities of Queensland and Wollogong. Several faculty members have research interests involving Australian history and politics.

Charles was appointed consul-general of Australia in Chicago in December 2004. Before assuming his position, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Australia from 1990 to 2004. He also has held a number of private sector positions. He was born in Covington, Kentucky and has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, Indiana.

His visit is being coordinated by the Division of International Studies.
