UW-Madison offering French, Norwegian, Italian classes for adults

Adults in the Madison area can learn French, Norwegian and Italian in non-credit classes offered by the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies.

“French Language and Culture: Beginning 1” is scheduled for Mondays, Jan. 23-March 20, 5:45-7:15 p.m. at a campus location. The class focuses on learning to communicate in French in various social and cultural situations in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

“French Language and Culture: Beginning 2/3” still has space for more participants. It began Tuesday, Jan. 17 and continues until March 7, meeting 5:45-7:15 p.m. at West High School, 30 Ash St., Madison.

An intermediate class starts March 14 and runs through May 2, 5:45-7:45 p.m. It will offer assistance in conversation, structures and culture as well as include reading short texts for comprehension and discussion.

Participants can practice conversing in French and develop their language skills in a new course, “Friday Morning French Conversation and Language Practice.” This course will meet Fridays, Feb. 3-March 10, 9-10 a.m. at a location to be announced.

Other French courses include “French for Reading Knowledge,” “Business French,” and “Directed Study in French for Professionals.”

“Beginning 1 Italian Language and Culture” began Jan. 17 but still has space for more participants. It will meet Tuesdays, from 6-7:30 p.m. at West High School through March 14. “Beginning 2 in Italian” is scheduled for March 21-May 16, 6-7:30 p.m., also at West High School.

Adults interested in learning Norwegian can learn to converse in a Beginning 1 class that meets Tuesdays, Jan. 14-March 28, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at West High School.
