School of Business names associate dean for executive education
An experienced higher education administrator has been named associate dean for executive education by the UW–Madison School of Business.
Roger G. Maclean will direct public executive education programs. More than 230 programs, many held at the Fluno Center for Executive Education, are offered annually and are responsible for more than $5.5 million in revenue each year. They recently were rated best in the world by The Economist Intelligence Unit.
For the past seven years, Maclean has been associate dean for academic affairs with the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies. In that role, he has led credit and noncredit programs for returning adult students. He has worked with schools and colleges across campus, the Wisconsin Alumni Association and other key units, and been involved in several distance education initiatives. He is on the board of directors of the national Association for Continuing Higher Education.
Maclean has a doctorate in education and a master of education, both from Pennsylvania State University. He earned his bachelor of science from Purdue University and pursued post-doctoral studies at the Institute for the Management of Lifelong Education at Harvard University. Before pursuing a career in higher education, he spent 13 years in corporate sales and marketing positions.
Maclean will work closely with Tammy Thayer-Ali, who directs the business school’s custom executive education programs as president of the Center for Advanced Studies in Business, Inc.
“We are delighted to have someone with Roger’s broad background in lifelong learning, to lead our public executive education programs,” said Dean Michael Knetter. “He has the education and experience needed to take our already extremely successful program to a new level. With the vision and expertise Roger and Tammy bring to their respective roles, executive education will provide a full array of outstanding educational opportunities for organizations.”
