More changes in store for ODOS, other offices
A trio of well-known academic staff members will depart campus later this semester.
Assistant Dean of Students Connie Wilson will retire on Tuesday, Nov. 29, after 35 years of distinguished service, much of it developing and overseeing budget and financial matters in the Offices of the Dean of Students (ODOS).
Wilson is well known for her advocacy of students and campus child care issues. She plans to spend time caring for her 90-year-old mother and will remain an active campus volunteer.
Pap and Akua Sarr also will be leaving the university at the end of the semester to continue their careers at Boston College.
Pap began his UW–Madison career in 1990, most recently as director of International Student Services (ISS). Akua has served the university for eight years and is currently assistant dean in the College of Letters and Science.
Interim Dean of Students Lori Berquam has named Drew Wielgus interim assistant dean and Sara Thurston-Gonzales as interim director of International Student Services.
Wielgus, a certified public accountant, was chief financial officer of Madison-based ProClip USA Inc. He will serve as interim assistant dean until May.
Thurston-Gonzales previously served as assistant director of ISS.
A reception honoring Wilson will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the University Club. Those wishing to honor Wilson’s career are encouraged to make a gift to the Classified Staff Child Care Grant Fund, a cause that she devoted considerable time and energy to during her career.
Reservations are encouraged and questions may be directed to Maureen Dembski at 263-0522 or maureen.dembski@uwfoundation.wisc.edu.
