Kauffman Foundation chief to speak on campus

Carl Schramm, president and chief executive officer of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, will speak at UW–Madison on Tuesday, Oct. 25, about successful entrepreneurship.

His talk will be at 6 p.m. in the Howard Auditorium of the Fluno Center, 601 University Ave. Schramm’s visit to campus is part of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation‘s Gilson Series for Entrepreneurs, which sponsors events focused on entrepreneurship several times a year.

Schramm leads one of the most respected entrepreneurship foundations in the world and is a successful entrepreneur in his own right. Before joining the Kauffman Foundation, he was involved in many business and educational ventures. He was chairman of Greenspring Advisors, Inc., a Baltimore-based merchant banking firm he founded to support business development in health care and insurance. He also founded HCIA, a health information technology company. In 1999 he co-founded Patient Choice Healthcare, Inc., in Minneapolis, where he serves as vice chairman of the board.

Schramm holds a master’s and doctoral degree from UW–Madison and a law degree from Georgetown University. He has served as entrepreneur in residence at American University in Washington, D.C., and has taught at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation was established in the mid-1960s by the late entrepreneur and philanthropist Ewing Marion Kauffman. The foundation works with partners to encourage entrepreneurship across America and improve the education of children and youth.
