Space Place, astronomy department plan Mars viewings for public

October 20, 2005

On Sunday, Oct. 30, Mars will be closest to Earth and at its best place for viewing since August 2003. Its approach and recession will take place over several weeks, from late October to early November, and observing opportunities will be prime.

UW Space Place and the Department of Astronomy have planned a series of opportunities for the public to view Mars through telescopes, weather permitting. Scheduled times are:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 25, 9-10 p.m., UW Space Place, 2300 S. Park St.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 26-Friday, Oct. 28, 7:30-10:30 p.m., Washburn Observatory
  • Sunday, Oct. 30, 6:30-10:30 p.m., Washburn Observatory
  • Monday, Oct. 31, 9-10 p.m., UW Space Place
  • Wednesday, Nov. 2-Friday, Nov. 4, 6:30-10:30 p.m., Washburn Observatory
  • Saturday, Nov. 5, 8-10 p.m., UW Space Place
