Student exhibition takes the ‘Cake’
Sasha Bergstrom-Katz, curator of the new undergraduate exhibition “Let Them Eat Cake,” says that its patrons and fans actually overlook cake.
Hmmm. Not by anyone we know. However, Bergstrom-Katz says that the show’s purpose is to push the boundaries of our usual (edible?) view of baked goods, as well as to provide a chance for undergraduates to exhibit their work.
“They are not given many chances to do that. This will give them a venue, as well as practice for professional art shows.
“Each artist is working off the common theme of cake, but interpretations vary greatly,” says Bergstrom-Katz. Some 17 students, most of them sophomores, will be exhibiting in media including digitally altered images, metal, photography, drawings, paintings, sculpture, metal and real cakes.
The exhibition, free and open to all, will begin on Saturday, Oct. 22, and be up through Thursday, Oct. 27, at 734 University Ave.
