School of Music presents concerts by guest artists, faculty, alumni

Soloist, collaborative artist and pianist Lise Keiter-Brotzman of Mary Baldwin College will perform music exclusively by female composers in her concert at UW–Madison on Friday, Oct. 7. Pieces will include the “Sonata in C major,” Op. 7, by Maria Hester Park and four movements (September through December) from “Das Jahr” by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. Keiter-Brotzman also will present three movements from “Grandmother’s Garden,” Op. 97, by Amy Beach; “Scherzo,” Op. 14, by Clara Schumann; and “Colour Suite” by Madeleine Dring.

Sponsored jointly by the School of Music and the Wisconsin Initiative for Science Literacy, the concert is free and open to the public. The music begins at 8 p.m. in Morphy Hall, Mosse Humanities Building. For more information, call the School of Music, 263-1900.

School of Music alumni will join members of the school’s faculty in concert for a special five-year reunion on Friday, Oct. 14. Alumni violinists Manuel Guillen and Raymond Leung and student string ensemble Philomusica will join faculty violinist Vartan Manoogian and faculty pianist Christopher Taylor to perform works by John Cage and Ernest Bloch. The concert starts at 8 p.m. in Mills Concert Hall, Mosse Humanities Building. Tickets, sold at the door, are $9 general, $7 seniors/students, UW–Madison students free with ID.
