“W Marks the Spot” for pirate-style fun during Homecoming 2005 at UW–Madison. The Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) and the UW Homecoming Committee invite the Madison community to enjoy a series of spirited events on campus in October.

The 20th Annual Charity Run/Walk will take place at noon on Sunday, Oct.16, at Library Mall. The 5K run and 3K walk begins in front of the Memorial Union and proceeds around scenic Lake Mendota through the UW–Madison campus.

Participants can register online or on the day of the race from 9:30 –11:30 a.m. at Library Mall. Entry fees are $15 until Wednesday, Oct. 12, or $20 at the event. The top five men and women finishers are invited to ride in the UW Homecoming Parade on Friday, Oct. 21.

The Eighth Annual Homecoming Golf Outing at University Ridge will take place at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21. Entry fees are $70 for UW–Madison students, $125 for non-students and $450 for a foursome. Participants are urged to register online by Sept. 30 to secure a spot in the 18-hole scramble. A Land Rover courtesy of Land Rover Madison and a Rolex watch from Chalmer’s Jewelers will be awarded to a lucky golfer for sinking a hole-in-one.

Proceeds from the Charity Run/Walk and Golf Outing benefit the Dean of Students Crisis Fund and student scholarships. The Dean of Students Crisis Fund provides emergency support for students who have no other resources in times of need. During the last 20 years, the UW Homecoming Committee helped to raise more than $100,000 for these charitable causes and is the largest single contributor to the fund.

The UW-Homecoming Committee is a nonprofit, student-run organization sponsored by WAA. A committee of 60 members plans a week of exciting Homecoming events for students, alumni and the Madison community.
