New dance pieces offer celestial celebration
Tai Ji, literally “the supreme ultimate fist,” is thought to promote health and longevity. It is considered a “soft” martial art, said to help to complete muscle relaxation, as opposed to other forms that rely on muscle tension.
Jin-Wen Yu, UW–Madison associate professor of dance, integrates Tai Ji with video interface and popular and modern dance in his company’s performance Thursday, Oct. 6-Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Overture Center.
Two new works, “Traveling Sun Series” and “Moon Over Lake Monona” will premiere in the presentation, which will begin at 8 p.m. in the Overture’s Wisconsin Center. In addition, there will be a 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 8.
Tickets, $15 and $10, are available at http://www.jin-wenyudance.org or by calling 262-1640.
