School of Business faculty members honored
Several members of the School of Business faculty have been recognized recently for their accomplishments.
Professor Larry Rittenberg was named one of the nation’s 100 most influential people in finance.
In its June 11 issue, Treasury and Risk Management Magazine included Rittenberg on a list including President George W. Bush; New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer; Lawrence Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corp.; and Indra Nooyi, president and CFO of PepsiCo Inc.
Only eight academics made the list. Rittenberg was included because of his work as chair of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) and its efforts to provide guidance for small and midsize companies on internal control compliance. COSO is sponsored by the five major professional accounting associations in the United States.
Rittenberg, who has taught at the UW–Madison since 1976, is Ernst & Young Professor of Accounting. This month, he will receive The Institute of Internal Auditors’ 2005 Bradford Cadmus Memorial Award, its highest award, in recognition of his contributions to the internal auditing profession at the Institute’s International Meeting in Chicago.
Professor Ramon (Ray) Aldag in the Department of Management and Human Resources, was named dean of the Fellows Group of the Academy of Management.
The Fellows Group was established to honor members of the Academy of Management who have made significant contributions to the science and practice of management. Only about 1 percent of the members are fellows.
The Academy of Management is a leading professional association for scholars dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge about management and organizations.
It is the oldest and largest scholarly management association in the world, with more than 15,000 members from 90 nations. As the dean of the Fellows Group for the next three years, Aldag will be the group’s administrative head, organizing and presiding at all meetings of the Fellows and establishing the schedule for consideration and confirmation of new members. Aldag is a former president of the Academy of Management.
