Utility project impacts central campus transportation
On Monday, May 16, buses begin 15-minute recess service for the summer and the Central Campus Utility Project moves into high gear. Patience and vigilance will be the key to getting around.
- Observatory Drive between Easterday Lane and Elm Drive will be closed to traffic. Access to the lakeshore area via Elm Drive will be maintained, but delays may occur. Buses and other vehicles will be rerouted onto Easterday Lane and Linden Drive. The intersection at Linden and Elm will become an all-way stop.
- Utility work also begins on Observatory Drive from Elm Drive to Babcock Drive. Temporary roads will allow motorists to travel to the Lot 36 (Steenbock) ramp from Elm Drive. Observatory will be closed from the ramp to Babcock Drive. This section is scheduled to reopen in time for the fall move-in.
- Access to Henry Mall from Linden Drive will be closed in early June. The east lane of the mall also will be closed at University Avenue. The west lane will be open to two-way traffic between University Avenue and parking areas 28 and 30.
- Babcock Drive between Observatory and Linden drives will remain closed until June 2006.
- University Bay Drive between Walnut Street and the Lot 60 road will remain closed until mid-June. Traffic will continue to be detoured through Lot 60.
In general, pedestrian traffic will be possible in all areas near construction, but most often on only one side of the road.
