Design students to show ‘Fashion Fury’

May 3, 2005

Donna Karans of the future – currently undergraduate apparel design students at UW–Madison – will exhibit their original clothing designs in a runway show on Sunday, May 8.

Sponsored by the Textile and Apparel Design Students’ Association, this year’s theme is “Fashion Fury.” According to one of the student designers, apparel design junior Sonja Nesse, all pieces (except footwear) have been designed, cut and sewn by the designers.

“In some cases they have even dyed, printed or woven or knitted their own fabric as well,” she says.

Nesse’s own designs will reflect her reverence for the natural world. In addition to her and about 30 other designers, some 20 additional students will work backstage, “and that doesn’t include models, hair and makeup people, music, photographers, lighting technicians – without them we couldn’t have a show,” Nesse says.

The student designs will be in the spotlight twice – at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. – in Memorial Union’s Great Hall. The cost is $3 at the door. All are welcome. For more information, contact Nesse at smnesse@wisc.edu.
