Canned food sculptures on Library Mall

April 15, 2005 By John Lucas

As part of “Greek Week 2005,” members of UW–Madison fraternities and sororities will be building sculptures out of canned food on Library Mall from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 18.

More than ten chapters will be building sculptures with the theme “Turn Back Time.” Judging will begin at 4 p.m. by UW–Madison faculty and staff.

Competing teams will provide canned food items themselves, through canned food items from home, collecting cans from friends or buying them at grocery stores. After the competition, all canned food items will be given to the Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin. Members of the group will be on hand to help distribute the food items collected to local area shelters.

In addition to canned food items, the Greek community is also participating in several other volunteer events, including Bucky’s Blood Drive, donations to the Ronald McDonald Foundation, and working with the Madison Police Department on clean-up and landscaping around Library Mall.
