‘U.S. Voting Rights Act of 1965 at 40’ events planned
“The U.S. Voting Rights Act of 1965 at 40” is a series of events bringing together prominent civil rights veterans, scholars, community members, local political figures and UW–Madison students in discussions on the contemporary situation of civil, voting, and human rights in the United States and Wisconsin.
Each speaker will present a large public lecture and participate in roundtable discussions with faculty, local public figures, students and community residents.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, with a speech from Anne Braden, founder of the Southern Organizing Committee for Economic and Social Justice, titled “A Time to Organize: Drawing on the Legacy of Struggle in the Civil Rights Movement.” The presentation will be held in the main lounge of Chadbourne Residential College.
Events continue through Thursday, April 14. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit http://housing.wisc.edu/student_orgs/crc/civilrights.
