Mattmiller joins University Communications
Brian Mattmiller has joined the University Communications staff as assistant director in charge of news and media relations.
For Mattmiller, who spent more than three years as director of news and public affairs at UW-Whitewater, the Madison appointment represents a homecoming of sorts. He worked as a university relations specialist in the office, focusing on science writing from 1994-2001, before heading to UW-Whitewater.
“Brian’s experience and steady judgment will help our office tell the university’s story in new and compelling ways,” says Amy Toburen, director of University Communications. “His skills in dealing with people and complex issues, plus his familiarity with the campus community, make him a great fit.”
Mattmiller, who handled UW-Whitewater’s response to media covering the appearance of controversial speaker Ward Churchill there earlier this month, is in charge of coordinating news coverage and media relations on the Madison campus.
