Milestones
Burton J. Kushner, professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science in the Medical School, has won the 2005 Alfred W. Bressler Prize in Vision Science, awarded by The Jewish Guild for the Blind. Kushner will receive the $30,000 prize at a ceremony in New York in the autumn of 2005.
Edward R. Hasselkus, professor emeritus of horticulture, will receive the Liberty Hyde Bailey Award, which recognizes an individual’s contributions to teaching, research, writing, plant exploration, administration, art, business and/or leadership. He will receive the award at the American Horticultural Society’s Great American Gardeners Conference in Orlando, Fla., on April 14.
Three UW–Madison student recruitment publications received Admissions Advertising Awards, national awards of excellence presented annually by Admissions Marketing Report magazine. UW–Madison’s student search piece, titled Look into Something Extraordinary, won a silver award, while the Admissions Update newsletter series and the Points of Pride publication both received Awards of Merit. Contributors to the publications included Karen Mittelstadt, communications manager in the Office of Admissions; Eileen Fitzgerald, creative director; Earl Madden, art director; Nancy Rinehart, senior designer; and Jeff Miller, Michael Forster Rothbart and Bob Rashid, photographers.
