Committee presents Social Justice Awareness Week
The Diversity Committee of the Associated Students of Madison, in cooperation with the Offices of the Dean of Students, will present Social Justice Awareness Week Monday, Nov. 29, to Friday, Dec. 3.
The week will be filled with prominent speakers, free food and performers raising issues of social justice and diversity on this campus. Events held Nov. 29-Dec. 2 all will occur between 6-8 p.m. at the Pyle Center.
The events are:
Nov. 29: Social Justice Night will include presentations from Dean of Students Luoluo Hong, as well as Brenda Plummer, professor of history.
Nov. 30: Injustice Night will include presentations from Barbara Rowe, who is on the board of directors and chair of the Wisconsin Task Force on Money, Education and Prisons. Professor Pam Oliver from the sociology department also will speak.
Dec. 1: Choice Night will be a debate format.
Dec. 2: Interracial Relations Night will include presentations by Robert Livingston, a professor of African-American studies, and a panel of students.
Dec. 3: Social Justice Social will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight in der Rathskeller in Memorial Union and will include a free concert by Free Sol and the Prophets.
