Roof repair begins on Helen C. White Library
A roof repair project began last week on the northeast side of Helen C. White College Library and will continue for at least another week, perhaps longer if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Officials say the roof was leaking, necessitating the repair work.
The contractor has parked a crane, trash container and tar tanker in the Park Street circle, but a traffic lane is open to provide access to Lot 8 and for fire safety purposes.
The project is not the only one occurring at College Library. New electrical cables and transformers also are being installed. They will support the increased electrical load associated with the new lake water pump station on the north side of the building. The pump station will serve the new COGEN power plant, as well as the heating plants on Charter and Walnut streets.
A total shutdown of Helen C. White is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, the day after Thanksgiving. The building will have no electrical power for eight to 10 hours. Lights, elevators, mechanical systems and the parking garage will be out of service during that time.
Department administrators are being advised to plan alternate work sites for staff members who will be working that day.
