Bucky Badger garners support for his 2004 presidential bid

October 15, 2004

Just when you need a new angle on all the election stories, Bucky Badger has one for you: He’s running for president during Homecoming 2004 at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

In conjunction with this year’s “Bucky for President” Homecoming theme, the UW–Madison students on the Homecoming Committee have been deputized to register voters. A voting registration table will be set up at the Wisconsin Alumni Association Campaign Headquarters Hospitality Tent on Friday, Oct. 22. In fact, voter registration will be available at every Homecoming event this year.

Candidate Bucky Badger is available for media interviews, accompanied – of course – by his UW–Madison student press secretary. His main campaign message is “Register and get out to vote on November 2!”

New homecoming events for 2004 include Bucky’s Inauguration Celebration, a dance on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 8 p.m.-midnight at the Memorial Union. It includes three music venues, including a multicultural dance. Also, a forum titled “Educational Assets: Strengthening Wisconsin’s Economy” will be held at the Kohl Center in Madison from 5–7 p.m. It will feature UW–Madison Chancellor John D. Wiley and UW System President Kevin Reilly.

The Madison community also is invited to take part in golf outing, charity run/walk, pep rally, parade and fireworks display.
