Homecoming events require road closures

The following street closures will be in effect on Friday, Oct. 15; Sunday, Oct. 17; and Friday, Oct. 22, due to Homecoming events.

On Oct. 15: The 700 and 800 blocks of Langdon Street (from Park Street to Lake Street) will be closed from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. to facilitate the Rock the Vote festival that will be held on Library Mall and on Langdon Street. The Memorial Union parking (Lot 1) also will be closed from 6 a.m.-6 p.m.

On Oct. 17: The Homecoming Charity Run/Walk will begin at noon on Library Mall. All street closures will be in effect starting at 11:30 a.m. Langdon Street will be closed from the Memorial Union to Park Street. Observatory Drive will be closed from Park Street to Walnut Street. Charter Street will be closed from Linden Drive to Observatory Drive. Elm Street will be closed from Lake Mendota to Observatory Drive. The duration of the closings will be roughly one hour. All streets will be opened by 1:30 p.m.

On Oct. 22: From 3 -5 p.m., there will be limited access to Langdon Street for local residents. Starting at 5 p.m., Langdon will be closed from Park Street to Wisconsin Avenue. Wisconsin Avenue will be closed from Langdon Street to Gilman Street starting at 6 p.m. Gilman Street will be closed from Wisconsin Avenue to State Street at 6 p.m. and remain closed until the parade passes by. The parade is expected to last just over one hour.

Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians are urged to be on the lookout for barricades, signs and police officers directing traffic. Tickets will be issued to those who are parked illegally.
