State’s largest used book sale benefits libraries
More than 15,000 books will go on sale during Wisconsin’s largest used book sale Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 6-9, in 116 Memorial Library, 728 State St.
The sale, sponsored by the Friends of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Libraries, is the 18th of its kind and draws visitors from all over the Midwest.
Books for the sale are donated primarily by faculty, staff, students and local residents. Among the subjects covered in this sale are: American studies, fiction, foreign languages, cooking, physical and biological sciences, computer science, government, political science, law, education, fine arts, self-help, reference, business, social sciences, religion, philosophy, women’s studies, and history. The sales, which are open to the public, help fund an annual lecture series, special purchases for the library collections, and a visiting scholar support program.
A preview sale ($5 admission) will be from 5-9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6. The regular sale, with no admission fee, will be 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, and Friday, Oct. 8. On Saturday, Oct. 9, from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., visitors can bring a bag and fill it for $2 (or buy a bag for $1 at the sale).
