Space still available in UW-Madison advanced placement classes

Wisconsin public high school students are still able to sign up for money-saving advanced placement courses that provide them with valuable college credits.

Space is still available in advanced placement courses in statistics, calculus, computer science, English literature, physics and U.S. government. The deadline to register for the classes is Aug. 10.

The popular program, offered through The Wisconsin Advanced Placement Distance Learning Consortium at UW–Madison, uses distance learning to provide real-time classroom instruction in the classes during regular school hours.

The courses help students prepare for university-level work and enhance their application to competitive colleges and universities.

For example, the College Board says that more than 236,000 college and university students enroll in an introductory statistics course every semester. High school students who plan to pursue science, engineering, health, business and mathematics in college can use the classes to jump-start their education by picking up that requirement while still in high school.

Students interested in the program but not yet registered for a class should consult with their high school counselors. The consortium’s goal is to provide all Wisconsin high school students with access to advanced placement courses through the use of their school’s BadgerNET videoconferencing lab.
