Commuters receiving parking assignments this week

July 27, 2004

UW–Madison parking assignments for the year starting Sept. 1 are being sent to applicants this week (July 26) with all assignments distributed by the end of the month.

The deadline to claim assignments is Wednesday, Aug. 18. Applicants cannot claim their assignments until Transportation Services sends the assignments to their units.

This year, customers can choose from three permit-display options when they claim their assignments. The options are:

* Option 1 – Hangtag This year, the hangtag will be 2 inches shorter than last year’s permit with a larger hole for the rear-view mirror. Transportation Services says most employees prefer this option.

* Option 2 – Hangtag with plastic pouch This is the same type and size pouch as last year, so applicants who already have a pouch should choose option 1.

* Option 3 – Permanent sticker This option is not for those who drive different vehicles to campus. Applicants should only choose this option when planning to park the same vehicle on campus each day.

To preview the different permit display options, visit http://www.fpm.wisc.edu/trans/display.html.

All assignments are claimed online — parking assignment notices will have instructions on how to claim assignments.

Once assignments have been claimed, permits will be mailed to the applicants’ designated parking mailing address, which can be updated when assignments are claimed.

The process is slightly different for those applicants seeking assignments for flex parking, a pay-as-you-use parking program for full-time employees willing to reduce the number of days they drive to campus. For those applicants:

* All flex parking assignments will be claimed online like other parking assignments.

* Those who currently have a flex parking meter and receive a flex parking assignment for next year will be mailed permits by Sept. 1 and do not need to come into the office, unless they are moving to a different flex parking rate from the current year.

The flex parking rates are:

* Level 1 lots (16, 34, 51, 60, 91): 25 cents/hour * Level 2 lots (17, 36, 39, 41, 46, 62, 63, 64, 76, 82, 85, 93): 35 cents/hour: * Level 3 lots (7, 79, 83, 95): 55 cents/hour

Flex parking customers who need to exchange smart cards, which are used to record parking usage, should use the dates listed below.

New flex parking customers must come into the office at 132 WARF Building to pick up their permits, receive instructions on the use of the in-car meter, and pay a meter deposit. Permits will not be mailed to new flex parking customers. Pick-up dates for new flex parking customers are:

* Monday, Aug. 23, 2-5 p.m. * Tuesday, Aug. 24, 7-10 a.m. * Wednesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. * Thursday, Aug. 26, 2-4:30 p.m. * Friday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

If you have any questions about claiming your parking assignment, contact your unit parking coordinator.
