Road construction projects advance
Road resurfacing and utility construction projects continue to affect traffic routes on campus.
- Linden Drive between Charter Street and Lot 21 (Medical Sciences) has been closed to all through traffic, with the exception of buses and emergency vehicles, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on workdays. At the end of the workday, the holes are filled in and the roadway re-opened. Crews are finishing a utility project at the intersection of Charter and Linden. The project should be completed by the end of this month, weather permitting.
- Observatory Drive from Park Street to Charter Street remains closed to all but Bascom Hill parking lot permit holders and emergency vehicles. Access to the lots has been difficult and at times impossible during the road’s reconstruction, which began in mid-June. Paving was completed late last week, and the center line has been painted on the roadway. Remaining work includes some curb-and-gutter replacement and terrace restoration. The projected completion date is Monday, July 19, when campus buses are to resume their regular route over the hill.
- Construction crews are expected to begin work Monday, July 19, on installation of domestic water lines, a lake water line and a gas main near the Cogen power plant site. The east lane of Walnut Street between Linden Drive (formerly Herrick Drive) and Gifford Pinchot Drive will be closed during the workday, but flag persons will maintain two-way traffic flow. Motorists should be prepared to make brief stops. At the end of each workday, the east lane will be reopened. The project should be completed by mid-August, providing there are no unexpected delays.
