UW Press title recognized

May 7, 2004 By Barbara Wolff

A multi-media volume published by the University of Wisconsin Press will be one of 29 titles singled out for special recognition by the American Library Association at its annual conference on Saturday, June 26, in Orlando, Fla.

Among the titles recognized in the two-hour program, “The Best of the Best: Books You Should Know About” will be “Schubert’s Winterreise: A Winter Journey in Poetry, Image and Song” (UW Press, 2003).

The UW Press set contains the complete German text and new English translation of the Wilhelm Müller poems on which the Schubert song cycle was based. It also features a foreword by Pulitzer Prize-winning, Wisconsin-based composer John Harbison, more than 100 evocative photographs by Madison photographer Katrin Talbot, and a recording of the song cycle by UW–Madison music faculty Paul Rowe, baritone and Martha Fischer, piano.
