Committee to provide perspective
A campuswide advisory group is being formed to give a new perspective on issues such as strategic plans, policies under development and climate initiatives.
The Labor/Management Advisory Committee, developed by Darrell Bazzell, vice chancellor for administration, and Classified Human Resources, will primarily consist of classified staff.
It will hold its first quarterly meeting Monday, May 17. Meetings also will be held on an ad hoc basis when needed.
The Wisconsin State Employees Union, American Federation of Teachers, Council for Non-Represented Classified Staff, Wisconsin Building Trades Association and campus administration will choose committee members.
Bazzell says LMAC will not discuss specific issues normally covered by labor agreements or the collective-bargaining process.
“The committee’s recommendations will be a valuable complement to the feedback already provided routinely by other groups through the governance process,” Bazzell says. “The university will look to this group to provide a unique perspective on many of the challenges facing the university.”
During Bazzell’s tenure as secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, a similar group often provided crucial advice during uncertain times.
“This new committee will provide valuable feedback and perspective to campus management,” says Mark Walters, associate director of Classified Human Resources, “I am looking forward to brainstorming with the committee on a variety of issues and ultimately developing new ideas that will benefit the campus community.”
