Choreographers to converge in Dance Program concert
Works by modern dance choreographer Dan Wagoner and somatic arts scholar/ choreographer Ruth Solomon will be highlighted in the Dance Program‘s Spring Concert, Thursday-Saturday, April 22-24.
Both New York-based Wagoner and Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Solomon have been in residence here during the spring semester. Wagoner, Henry-Bascom Professor, will present a 1991 group work called “Plod” that was commissioned by the National Endowment for the Arts. Solomon’s work suggests the anxiety and alienation artists experienced in the Stalinist state, she says.
In addition, UW–Madison dance faculty and students will present modern pieces, and works that explore Chinese, Javanese and African traditions.
Performances will begin at 8 p.m. in Lathrop Hall’s H’Doubler Performance Space. Tickets, available at the door, are $12, $8 for students and seniors. A special student price of $5 will be available on Thursday, April 22. For information, call the Dance Program office at 262-1641.
