Symposium to explore international law, foreign relations
The interplay between the practice of international law and the conduct of foreign relations will be the topic of a two-day symposium organized by the Wisconsin International Law Journal.
The conference will be held March 5-6 at the Fluno Center for Executive Education, 601 University Ave. It is free and open to the public; pre-registration is encouraged.
Ten internationally recognized lawyers from six nations will gather for discussions of how international law affects policy, how policy affects the practice of international lawyers and how international lawyers relate with policymakers.
Among those participating are Hilary Charlesworth of the Australian National University, Martti Koskenniemi of the University of Helsinki and the Finnish Foreign Office, and former U.S. Undersecretary of State William D. Rogers.
The event is sponsored by the Law School, the Institute for Legal Studies, the International Institute, the Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy, and the Anonymous Fund of the College of Letters and Science. Co-sponsors are the UW Center for European Studies and the UW Center for Global Studies.
The symposium is being dedicated to Richard Bilder, a UW–Madison emeritus law professor whose work in the field is recognized internationally.
